Bogotá DC, March 15, 2022. The Franco-Italian Group EssilorLuxottica, a world leader in the design, manufacture and distribution of ophthalmic lenses, frames and sunglasses with a 12-year presence in Colombia, will double its production capacity in the next two years, thanks to an expansion and modernization plan that it implemented in its new facilities in Cundinamarca.

The country's largest employer of optometrists and personnel related to the sector has more than 1,150 collaborators. Through its Servioptica laboratory, it impacts the lives of more than 1.4 million people a year with high-quality lenses and visual solutions.

In 2019, it was estimated that 70% of the population in Colombia suffered from visual fatigue, according to a study by Asomovil. During 2020, the use of devices such as cell phones, computers, video game consoles, tablets and TVs increased worldwide due to the adoption of new routines such as teleworking and online education due to the pandemic, producing new risks for eye health.

“We are committed to improving the visual health of Colombians. With this series of investments, at EssilorLuxottica we strengthen the operation of our Servioptica laboratory in Funza, to continue being the most efficient and highest quality alternative in offering visual solutions, as well as a high-tech benchmark for the optical sector in Colombia.” says Mauricio Confar Country Manager Wholesale EssilorLuxottica in Colombia.

EssilorLuxottica seeks to cover the care of more than 51 million Colombians who have a vision problem, either due to lack of awareness about their visual health and/or the difficulty of logistical access to the service. Uncorrected visual problems are the main cause of visual impairment in the world, according to the World Health Organization 80% of cases of blindness are preventable, and these do not only affect the quality of life of patients, or learning in the case of children, but also has a negative effect on the economy of a country. Currently Myopia is one of the most common vision problems in the world, however, there are other visual defects such as Hyperopia, Astigmatism and Presbyopia that we must also pay attention to.

We are committed to continuing to invest in the Colombian optical sector in order to offer even better services and products, among which Transitions, Crizal and Varilux stand out, we provide state-of-the-art technology and, therefore, the highest level of customer satisfaction.

The company also renovated its headquarters located in Antioquia, doubling the size of the production plant and optimizing the infrastructure and production capacity, as well as operating more efficiently, meeting the highest quality standards worldwide in its two laboratories.

In Colombia, through the Fundación Volver, EssilorLuxottica has delivered more than 13,500 visual solutions a year at no cost to people in vulnerable conditions. To date, more than 166,000 visual exams have been performed and the lives of more than 115,000 people in 31 different departments have been improved.

The new Servioptica main laboratory is located in the Celta Trade Park business complex located on Autopista Medellín, Calle 80, Km 7, south side.
